Capítulo 75 El pueblo está hambriento porque los gobernantes exigen fuertes impuestos, por eso está hambriento. El pueblo es difícil de gobernar, porque los gobernantes manipulan e interfieren, por eso es difícil de gobernar. El pueblo es indiferente a la muerte porque los gobernantes tienen avidez por la vida, por eso es indiferente a la muerte. Así, solamente aquél que en su vida actúa desinteresadamente es el que sabe honrar y valorar la vida. |
* * * 民之饥 以其上食税之多 是以饥 民之难治 以其上之有为 是以难治 民之轻死 以其上求生之厚 是以轻死 夫唯无以生为者 是贤于贵生 |
When people are hungry, It is because their rulers eat too much tax-grain. Therefore the unruliness of hungry people Is due to the interference of their rulers. That is why they are unruly. The people are not afraid of death, Because they are anxious to make a living. That is why they are not afraid of death.
